Fast UTF-8 to UTF-16 Conversion Patented
This thread on linux-utf8 is bitterly funny. Apparently
a professor at SFU has written a
patent-pending fast UTF-8 to UTF-16 converter.
He has even got
philosophical about a patent-based Open Source technology transfer model!!
His motivations are even more funny. Typical of academia of course. Just imagine a company paying patent royalties for their UTF-8 to UTF-16 transcoding code...

Reliability, my dear Watson
Just got three "
Undelivered Mail Returned to Sender" messages. Turn out to be for three messages I sent to the linux-utf8 mailing list on 8 Feb 2005. Baffled.
(Currently in Amsterdam Schipol Airport en route to Tehran for two weeks.)
