CSS3 font goodness

Here's a nice blogpost from John Dagget of Firefox fame about the upcoming Firefox 4 supporting CSS3 OpenType font-feature support:

Yes, definitely. It's just that I've been busy building the infrastructure below and have not got to wire it up to pango yet.

Awesome work Behdad. You’re the one guy that gives us pleasing typography.

Chromi needs to catch up soon. May $deity inspire them as to the appeal of variety and beauty in displayed text.

Are they embedding HarfBuzz or linking against it? Embedded code copies makes me a sad panda.

That's what Firefox always does, but in the future Linux distributions will compile it against system harfbuzz. The only reason that there is no system harfbuzz yet is that we are not 100% done with the API yet. Sometime before March we'll call it 1.0 and then install it as a system library to share.
