Playing with gdb, I just discovered gdbtui. Very nice tool. Give it a try if you've not before.

It is included in gdb, if you have installed gdb, you have it already.

The debugging frontend I've really fallen in love with is 'DDD'. The ability to actually step through the pointers and actually visualize your data structures is really a killer feature IMO.

Now if only someone made a nicer-looking UI for it... (sadly, I don't have the time these days to even try -- maybe over the summer?)

Have a look at cgdb, a curses gdb. Also nice.
