Dear Maintainer

Please do me and several other (CVS) users a favor and do NOT turn -Werror on under ANY condition. I will (and several other will too) appreciate if you respect our decision-making ability and freedom of choice on which compiler flags to use.

Let me assure you that I better understand about my compiler and compiler options, than your five lines of configure.in magic can ever do.

Please understand that Free Software (in particular, GNOME modules) are not your pet software only, and do NOT put what you should be putting in your ~/.bash_profile into configure.in

I think the point is that they will get bug reports on their code for other compilers, architectures, where if the compiler was being less strict they might never get reported.

What? You don't have -Werror on by default? Fair enough having freedom of choice on flags, but what does it say about code quality if it won't build with -Werror? Or am I completely misunderstanding your request?

Please elaborate on the specific issues. I'm curious to know under which circumstances -Werror is not desirable.
