Apple madness

Apparently you cannot send a gift from Canada to the US. Apple.com doesn't accept Canada billing address and Apple.ca doesn't accept US shipping address. Thanx.

I had precisely the same issue with Paypal. I wanted to order an item (on ebay) and have it shipped to an address in the US. Paypal has absolutely no provision for this: the country is hardcoded. Even the "add a Gift address" option only lets you add addresses within Canada. Here's the email I sent paypal support:

Why is the country not a changeable item in the Add Address form? I live in Canada but would like the item shipped to an address in the US. I can't even add the address as a Gift address -- it's still fixed as Canada.

I suppose Paypal can't fathom why anyone in Canada would want to buy a gift for a US citizen?

5 days later I got an automated response from Paypal that told me to resubmit my request if the issue hasn't been fixed. Grrr.

So it sounds like Apple is similarly retarded. Here's hoping they're more responsive than Paypal was.
